John Delaney has competed in 21 consecutive Bostom Marathons with a best time in the 2:30 region, “when I wasn’t so old”. Now, 46, he was here to post a Masters division qualifying time so he can stretch his streak to 22. He also succeeded, at 3:25:20. “I’ve been in over 70 marathons and seen a lot of courses,” Delaney, wearing his lucky Greater Boston Track Club T-shirt, said “I liked this one a lot. There weren’t many inclines, the aid stations were everywhere you wanted one, and the mile markers were easy to see. It reminded me of Boston in the way it was organized”.

Last year's Long Beach Marathon was an incredible experience for me. It was my first marathon and I wanted to make it a memorable one. The Long Beach experience definitely exceeded my expectations in what I was looking for in my first marathon. It was a very scenic course as most of the course was run either downtown, along the beautiful shoreline, or around Long Beach State's magnificent campus. The course was flat and fast and had plenty of competition, which was a few of my expectations for my first marathon. And I feel that ICR race day management more than adequately made the event run properly and smoothly. After I had completed my 3rd place finish, I got to enjoy all the great music, expo product, and beer garden beverages provided by Michelob Ultra. I will be definitely coming back to do this race year after year. The experience I had at Long Beach will be a memory that I will take with me the rest of my life.
