Race Day Preparations - Getting to the Start of the Race

As over 20,000 racers converge upon Long Beach for the start of the 26th Long Beach International City Bank Marathon, traffic is going to be heavy as everyone jockies to find parking as close as possible.  Here are a few tips on how to make your race morning more relaxed and to get you to the starting line on time:

- Most importantrly, leave early and give yourself plenty of travel time.  This seems easy, but few actually follow through with this.  Plan on arriving at the race site at least an hour and a half (2 hours would be better) before the start of your race.  You'll have time to warm up, stretch, use the porta-potties, and be relaxed when the start gun goes off!
- Have a plan.  In the days leading up to the race, get familiar with the route that you will be driving on the morning of the race and where you would like to park.  If you need help figuring out the best route to the race, please see the Parking and Directions page on this website.
- When you go to the Health & Fitness Expo to pick up your race packet, drive the route you will use on race day and visit where you would like to park.  This way you will know what to expect and minimize race morning surprises.
- Leave early on the morning of the race.  Yes, we are stating this for a second time.  Don't blow months of training by trying to get an extra hour of sleep and then being stuck in frustrating traffic.
